Rock of Ages
Tom Cruise as a Rock Star?? He is soooo miscast in this tribute
to the eighties flick. Cruise pretty much ruins the whole movie because he brings
in too much baggage from all the roles in starred in prior. Even if they cast
the movie with an unknown this wanna be musical would be too cheesy to rank
anywhere near the last great movie musical Chicago. Speaking of Chicago Catherine
Zeta-Jones returns singing and dancing in this movie but sad to
say she will not get an Oscar for this flick. The mash up music is ok until you
hear Mary J. Blige
sing. Her voice is amazing but when you see her on screen she could have
forgone eating Ho Ho’s before she went to bed. Finally can Hollywood tell Ryan Seacrest
that his alleged girlfriend, Julianne Hough,
cannot act and she is better served going back to Dancing with the Stars.
Verdict:
A monkey named Hey Man steals the movie (Really). That’s how
poor the acting is. This movie makes my list of worst movies of 2012.Monday, June 25, 2012
Abe Lincoln Vampire Killer
Abe Lincoln the vampire killer, ludicrous?? Well with all these superhero movies making tons of money, why not take a President, LOL, and give him skills and super strength.
How this book became a bestseller is beyond my small meager mind but I knew that going to see this movie would provide plenty of laughs for me, which it did.
The story is about how Abraham Lincoln discovers that vampires are planning to take over the United States. He makes it his mission to eliminate them.
The movie is long and most of the limited action in the movie does not take place until the last hour. The entire movie is pretty much like a cartoon. Abe Lincoln, played by Benjamin Walker, waits until he’s in his 50’s to go after his nemesis with the same strength and skill he had in his early years?!
His wife Mary, who is played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, is way too pretty and miscast to play Lincoln’s wife who historically was unattractive (remember the Gieco commercial)
Mary also has skills at killing vampires and you will be laughing with tears when you get to the part when she confronts a female vampire.
Anthony Mackie, who seems like he will take any acting job, is Abe’s childhood friend and is wasted in this movie.
Where did I lose it in this movie?
- When Abe Lincoln mentions his entire name various times throughout the movie.
- When I had to count how many times I saw true 3D effects (not many).
- When Harriet Tubman makes a cameo appearance??
Verdict:
Find your laughs elsewhere because this movie is rubbish.

Prometheus
Ridley Scott has made many good to great movies, (Gladiator) this is not one of them.
So the word on the street was that this was not an Alien movie prequel or it was. The bottom line is that it does not make a difference because this is not a good movie.
The story is about a team of explorers who discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.
There is not a lot of action until the 3rd act. For this movie I expected to see Special Effects and scenes that I have never seen before. That’s the essence of a great summer movie. Alas Prometheus fails in this category.
There are many “A” list actors involved (Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, who I don’t remember seeing in the movie, and Idris Elba) in this project but none of them can fill the void left behind by Sigourney Weaver who played Ripley. Noomi Rapace tries but fails.
Verdict:
This movie should be called Propofol not Prometheus because halfway through it you are asleep.
Aliens 2 is still the best of the franchise.
