You probably already heard the story of the Love Ranch on the ID Channel, Dateline, or 48 Hours Mystery. It’s the true story centered on a married couple, Charlie and Grace Bontempo who opened the first legal brothel in Nevada. Two great actors Joe Pesci and Helen Mirren play the couple. Pesci does what he does best which is being obnoxious as he wants to be and says the “F” word with every sentence. I realized how much I missed the guy from GoodFellas. Yea, he pretty much plays himself but I loved it. I was laughing in parts where I should have been silent. Helen Mirren can do no wrong. She does a good job playing a woman who is depressed, dying, and wants to be loved. She is great in any role she takes on.
The movie also has newcomer Sergio Peris-Mencheta. He is good as the boxer that Helen falls in love with. Gina Gershon is also in the movie and plays a hooker.
Verdict: If you love Joe Pesci then this flick is for you. Gina Gershon made me want to watch 1995 Showgirls over the weekend and surprisingly it still holds up after all these years.
